When Truck Accidents In Naples Cause Fatal Injuries
US 41 brings plenty of truck traffic through Naples, which increases risks for local drivers. Truck accidents throughout Collier County are common and often cause devastating injuries. After a tragic truck crash that claimed the life of a local woman, our Naples truck accident lawyer wants you to know the risks and your rights in filing a Florida wrongful death claim.
Local Woman Killed In Naples Semi-Truck Accident
A 47-year-old Naples woman was killed and two children who were traveling with her were injured as a result of a recent semi-truck accident in Naples. According to a September 5, 2024 report by the Naples Daily News, the accident happened on Immokalee Road earlier that morning:
- The female victim, who was driving an SUV, was traveling south on Logan Boulevard;
- She had the right of way, but as she approached the intersection to make a left turn, she was struck by a fertilizer truck from the opposite direction;
- The semi-truck driver, a 52-year-old Avon Park man, ran the red light then violently crashed into her vehicle.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital but, sadly, did not survive her injuries. Two young children who were passengers in the vehicle were taken to the hospital as well. Police have not disclosed their ages or the status of their condition. They are continuing to investigate the crash and the semi-truck driver, who is facing felony criminal charges.
Unfortunately, these types of crashes are common in our area. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reports that close to 700 truck accidents in Collier County happen each year.
Your Rights In Filing A Naples Wrongful Death Truck Accident Claim
Semi-trucks and other commercial vehicles can weigh up to 80,000 pounds and may span up to 70 feet long. This protects the truck driver but puts other motorists at risk. Unfortunately, truck accidents in Naples frequently result in severe, potentially fatal injuries.
In the aftermath, surviving family members are devastated and may not be sure of what to do next. Regardless of any criminal charges filed in the case, you may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim against the trucker, the company they work for, or others involved.
A wrongful death truck accident claim in Naples can provide a sense of justice for the victim and the compensation they need to cover outstanding medical expenses, lost earnings, and their pain and suffering. Under the Florida Statutes, those who may be entitled to file a Naples wrongful death claim include:
- The victim’s spouse or domestic partner;
- Their children, grandchildren, or legal wards;
- Their parents, grandparents, or legal guardians;
- Other blood relatives and representatives of their estate.
